Terms / Definitions

The computer world is full of specialized words and terms not found in normal conversation. I use quite a few and will try and collect them all here - these mostly industry “standards” but … I’m sure a few will be specific to me or my area of the industry. I’m also including acronyms here because … those are terms too.

General Terms

IT

Information Technology - the formal term for computers, networks and everything else computer related.

Inventory Terms

ITAM

IT Asset Management - formal term for an inventory system specific to computers, networks and all things IT.

Caution: “asset” means different things to different people. Your accounting folks might be confused by your use of the word “asset” here - but thats the one the IT people use.
